Royal Coachman Lodge

The Royal Coachman Lodge located on the banks of the Nuyakuk River in the middle of the Wood Tik-Chik State Park (the largest state park in the U.S. with 1.6 million acres) in the heart of the Bristol Bay region of Southwest Alaska and we feel is one of the best places to experience in total what Alaska has to offer fly fishers.

The Lodge is only accessible by floatplane, 65 air miles north of Dillingham. The Wood Tik-Chik Park, contains 13 lakes that make up two distinct watersheds. The northern watershed drains into the Upper Nushagak River from the outlet of Tikchik Lake. The Kilbuck Mountains rise majestically from the waters edge where the western end of the lakes create spectacular fjords that drain into the western watershed of the vast 4.8 million acre Togiak National Wildlife Refuge.

The surrounding scenery accessed from the Royal Coachman that will act as your backdrop at this lodge is ASTOUNDING.

Intimate Setting:The Lodge can accommodate 10-12 guests and its two DeHavilland Beavers can transport guests to remote locations throughout an area that is 250 miles east to west by 300 miles north to south offering the angler a variety of waters from very small streams to large rivers and lakes.

The Lodge maintains a fleet of 20 boats scattered throughout the region giving anglers access to the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge, Katmai National Park and Wood-Tikchik National Park offering an unsurpassed Alaskan fly fishing experience to target all five Salmon species, trophy Rainbow Trout, Char, Dolly Varden, Pike, and Grayling.

This comfortable and cozy Lodge offers four finely furnished guest cottages as well as one well appointed bedroom in the main lodge all contain modern private bath facilities, independent heat, excellent beds, and all the comforts of home, along with spectacular views of the river, and the rapids.

Dinner menus vary, but typically include New York steak, turkey, prime rib, Halibut, a variety of Alaskan seafood - you won't find better food at any fishing lodge in Alaska.

SEASONS:

June: Fish in spring waters are impatient for the millions of salmon fry heading to the ocean. Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout, Dolly Varden, Arctic Char and Grayling are very aggressive and take almost any fly in their path. In the middle of the month, Sockeye and King Salmon begin to flood the rivers

July: Pink and Chum begin to enter the waters but July is the height of the Sockeye and King runs. July continues to offer excellent dry fly-fishing. King fishing ends by August, but their spawning helps Rainbows become trophy catches during July.

August: Silver and Pink Salmon swarm to spawning beds in August, as the Rainbows, Char, Dolly Varden follow to feed on protein rich salmon eggs, which are easy prey for the fly angler

September/October: Rainbow Trout and most species are at their largest, as the fish know that winter is on its way making them feed aggressively. Silvers typically leave by mid-September, but Rainbows, Lake Trout, Arctic Char, Grayling, are plentiful through early October.

GETTING THERE: Weeks at the Lodge are from Sunday to Sunday. Guests normally fly into Anchorage the day before, spend the day or evening taking in the sights and catch one of the scheduled flights into Dillingham the next day. Plan for a Sunday afternoon arrival in Dillingham, Alaska, where a Lodge representative will pick you up in one of our vans and transport you via floatplane to the Lodge.
