We have been fishing with these guides here as well as escaping the Chicago winters by ourselves for the past 8 years and can say that Boca Paila is one of Jon and Andy's favorite saltwater fly fishing destinations.

Travelers can choose from direct, relatively short flights from many major U.S. cities to Cancun, Mexico. A pleasant 2 1/2-hour drive down the Yucatan Peninsula coastline leads to the peaceful seclusion of Boca Paila.

Boca Paila is one of the very best saltwater flats fisheries in the Atlantic or the Caribbean. A combination of brackish and freshwater estuaries intermingles with a complex shallow-water reef system creating Boca Paila's quintessential food-rich flats resource. The area is best known for superb bonefishing and an unparalleled permit population, but there are bonus fish to make it extra fun: tarpon, snook, barracuda, jack crevalle and cubera snapper.

One of the other reasons that Boca Paila is one of our favorite flats fishing destinations is that great fishing can be as short as a 3 minute boat run from the dock. The flats are seemingly endless, and there is always something to chase down there regardless of the time of year or weather conditions.

The Boca Paila guides have the longest average guide tenure (18 years) . They are uniformly capable, and most are patient and can be excellent teachers. As the majority of the lagoon's flats are too soft to allow wading, the preferred method of accessing the flats is via a 16-ft Dolphin flats skiff poled by your guide.
