Cinco Rios Lodge

Situated right on the banks of the Simson River on the outskirts of Coyhaique, the Cinco Rios Lodge is the newest wonder of this trout fisherman's paradise.

The lodge has been in operation for years and boasts some of the best access to private and hard to reach waters in the region. I can tell you that the variety of fishable waters you will see here is mind numbing.

They have now built a brand new physical structure that is simply one of the finest lodge facilities that I have seen in that part of the world.

If you want access an incredible variety of superb fishing waters such as rivers, lakes and small streams, all with spectacular views and scenery - we know of no finer option in that part of Chile.

If you want great accommodations, food, and wines- look no further.

Throw in seasoned, professional local guides that speak English and that are excited to share their skills with you, and now you have the Cinco Rios Lodge experience.

One of the most important features of Cinco Rios Lodge is that they have access to some of the most diverse fisheries found anywhere on Earth. Freestone rivers, spring creeks, alpine lakes - everything from intimate walk and wade streams to Montana style larger rivers. From azure colored alpine lakes, to meandering rivers in temperate rainforest settings.

Rio Simpson It is probably the most famous river in the Aysen region; the Rio Simpson tends to fish like classic Montana freestone and has significant caddis and mayfly opportunities. Browns and rainbows from 14-22 inches are your usual catch. However, trout up to 30 inches have been caught on a fly. King Salmon run this river from early January through mid March. Kings have been taken from the Simpson that push 45+ pounds. The Lodge is located right on the Simpson River banks, then on top of enjoying the most gorgeous views of the Simpson river with the Andes peaks as a background, you will be able to finish a great drifting day right at the lodge, where the Pisco ours will be waiting for you.

Rio Paloma
The Rio Paloma is a river that begins in Desierto lake and runs northwest until it meets the Rio Desague about 15 miles away. A glacial freestone flows iridescent blue water and provides fantastic dry fly and streamer action. Predominantly a brown trout fishery, the introduction of rainbows in the late nineties has proven to be a success. Fish from 14-23 inches are taken from the crystal, clear Paloma. This river is generally floated.

Rio Azul
Located between Lago Azul and Lago Desierto, the Rio Azul is accessible by boat as it gets you into a remote area. Flowing beneath the shadows of Cerro Castillo (Castle Peak), it is probably one of the world's most beautiful fishing locations. Browns up to 20" inches are quite common with larger fish occasionaly taken. Jet boats take you to and from the Rio Azul, however, wade fishing is generally preferred once you arrive.

Rio Desague
The Rio Desague (Drainage River) drains Lago Elizalde and runs for about five miles until it enters Lago Caro (Expensive Lake). Within this short stretch of river are browns and rainbows 17-23 inches with many larger trophies lurking in its depths. Jet boats will run into this remote river for some spectacular scenery and dry fly fishing.

Rio Emperador Guillermo
It is one of the jewels of the area, there are many pools and riffles loaded with hungry trout, averaging 12 to 16 inches, but in such great numbers that the rods stay bent a good percentage of the day! This is one of the prettier walk and wade streams found anywhere!

Other Rivers that are fished this lodge include the the Manihuales, the Toqui, the Boca de Leon, the Coyhaique, the Huemules and many others!

The season at Cinco Rios Chile runs from the first of November through the first week of May. The word awesome could very well have been created to try to describe this spot in the depths of the incredible Patagonian Andes.

Chile has been the safest, stable and most friendly South American country. The Aysen Region of Chile has preserved a unique fishery that has made it world wide famous, as the resident brown trout capital of South America.Cinco Rios Lodge is located 10 minutes from Coyhaique, the Capital City of the Aysen Region, right on the banks of the Simpson River. To get to the lodge you just have to fly to Balmaceda airport, 3 hours south from Santiago. Once here the staff will be waiting for you at the airport and will drive for 45 minutes to the Lodge.

With Cinco Rios you will enjoy their Patagonian culture as much as the quality of this regions world-class Fly Fishing in Chile.

We visited the lodge in Jan of 08 and were more than impressed. When someone wants to fish Chile, and has a desire to get a well rounded experience, I highly recommend this lodge.
