Bristol Bay Lodge

Angling begins at Bristol Bay after ice out in mid-may, and excellent fishing is possible until ice fills your rod guides in late October. The resident freshwater fish: Rainbow Trout, Arctic Char, Dolly Varden, Lake Trout and Northern Pike are available all season with the largest rainbows taken in June and July and again in September. The salmon, returning to the rivers of their birth to spawn and die, do so at varying times during the summer beginning with the Chinook (King) and the Chum in June, the Sockeye (Red) and Pink (Humpy) in July, and the Coho (Silver) in August.

The anadromous Dolly Varden (a sea-run relative to the non-migratory, native Dollies) run in the rivers in June, July and August.

Twelve species of fish either inhabit the waters or return here to spawn, making the Wood-TikChik/Togiak area a true anglers paradise with good action at any time during the season.

The fishing area available to guests at BBL includes the remarkably fertile drainage systems of the Wood, TikChik, Nushagak, Togiak and Goodnews Rivers, and their unique networks of large lakes and miles of rivers and streams. Much of southwestern Alaska's prime fishing water is accessible only by float plane.

Their three DeHavilland Beavers unlock this vast wilderness for you and are piloted by professionals, concerned with your comfort and safety, who have logged thousands of incident free hours in the Alaskan bush.

Because of their location and close proximity to the fishery, they are able to keep your daily flight time to a maximum of 60 minutes. This time frame allows them to fly up to a 100-mile radius from the lodge. Flights are as short as 10-minutes; most average 30-minutes.

The eight guest rooms in the main lodge are arranged for single or double occupancy, with queen or double beds. Each has a private bath , comfortable furnishings and is fully carpeted.

Guests stay in rooms in the main lodge buildings or in one of our four out cabins which are generally used by special sized groups or families.

Out cabins have living rooms, separate bedrooms and full baths.

After a full days fishing relax in the sauna or enjoy a soothing Jacuzzi before cocktails, hors' droves and a hearty dinner. The cuisine is plentiful and prepared with skill and attention to detail. The tackle shop, game room and library are favorite congregating areas, as is the fly-tying bench - one of the most complete anywhere.
